Baldwin County residents will have several opportunities in March to build hands-on skills in gardening, land stewardship and forest management through a series of workshops hosted by the Alabama Cooperative Extension System and local partners.
Three educational programs are scheduled throughout the month in Robertsdale and Perdido, offering practical, research-based guidance for gardeners, landowners and outdoor enthusiasts of all experience levels.
The first event, a free Pond and Lake Management Workshop, is set for March 10 at 6 p.m. at the Baldwin County Coliseum in Robertsdale. Designed for landowners and pond enthusiasts, the program will focus on improving pond health and productivity. Specialists will provide guidance on water quality, vegetation control and fish balance, along with on-site aquatic weed identification and pond alkalinity testing. Participants are encouraged to bring plant and water samples for identification and evaluation.
The workshop will take place at the Robertsdale Coliseum, located at 19477 Fairground Road, Robertsdale. There is no cost to attend. Registration is available online at www.aces.edu/go/5812.
On March 20, the ForestHER Basics Workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Perdido Volunteer Fire Department. The hands-on program is tailored for women who want to feel more confident managing wooded property and natural resources. Participants will learn how to identify tree and plant species, measure forest trees and better understand the land they own or manage.
ForestHER Basics is intended for women landowners, outdoor enthusiasts and anyone interested in developing foundational forest management skills in a supportive learning environment. The workshop will be held at 22190 County Road 47 in Perdido. The cost is $20, which includes materials and lunch. Registration is available at www.aces.edu/go/5810.
The month concludes with the Azalea 101 Workshop on March 24 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Baldwin County Coliseum in Robertsdale. The full-day program is designed for gardeners interested in learning how to grow healthy evergreen and native azaleas. Topics will include planting, care and propagation techniques, with information suitable for both beginners and experienced gardeners.
The workshop costs $10 and includes lunch. A small plant sale will follow the program. The event will be held at the Robertsdale Coliseum, 19477 Fairground Road, Robertsdale. Online registration is available at www.aces.edu/go/5775.
The Azalea 101 Workshop is hosted by Alabama Cooperative Extension System specialists, Baldwin County Master Gardeners and the Azalea Society of America. All three programs are part of Extension’s ongoing effort to provide accessible, research-based education that supports healthy landscapes, responsible land management and natural resource stewardship across Baldwin County.
