FAIRHOPE — Cookie Fix is set to open a new location in the heart of downtown Fairhope.
The Alabama-based cookie company was started by owner Amy Jason, who went from baking cookies out of her house to opening storefronts across the state with seven locations already in Alabama, as well as in Tennessee, Georgia and Florida. Now she is making her way to 12 N. Section St. in Fairhope, where Villa Décor used to operate.
The Fairhope location is being run by Anna Catherine Smith along with help from her husband, Robert. She is an Eastern Shore native coming from a family of self-professed Cookie Fix fans. While living in Birmingham, her father would walk to the nearest location, and it was he who persuaded her to open a Cookie Fix. She eventually met Jason, who said Fairhope was always at the top of her list of places to open one.
"I never in my wildest dreams thought I could be in this location," Smith said on the opportunity to open in downtown Fairhope, who secured the location after a friend tipped her off that the previous business was closing.
Cookie Fix offers 12 flavors a day that rotate constantly, such as the classic chocolate chip along with funfetti, lemon tea cake, oatmeal toffee, peanut butter cup, triple chocolate chip and salted caramel toffee. They also make cookie cakes in small (6"), medium (13") and large (16") sizes.
If you happen to have the need to make cookies at home, they have fresh cookie dough available in the fridge. Unique to Fairhope, the building will also feature an event space that can fit up to 50 people for occasions such as birthdays, baby showers, corporate meetings and anything else.
Construction is still underway, but Smith said she hopes to have it open later this spring.
"Growing up, from the time I was 15, I had a job in downtown Fairhope, and I think one of my favorite parts about growing up in Fairhope is just being downtown," Smith said. "I think we're such a community-minded town, which is hard to find, and we have this awesome view with all these windows, which is amazing, so I think it'll just be fun to be engaged in the community, meet people, learning about their stories, be an integral part of their life and just really be able to be all in Fairhope."
