DAPHNE, Ala.—The Admirals clinched a playoff spot last week, but lost a 2-1 heart-breaker Tuesday to close out the regular season with a rainy senior-night loss at home to arch-section-rival UMS-Wright. On the line was the Section 1 titles and home-field advantage for the start of the playoffs.
Bayside went up 1-0 in the first half on a beautiful cork-screw goal by Harrison York from the right-side edge of the box. But the Bulldogs got back in it then took the lead for good in the second half. The Bulldogs are the twice defending state champions in the division.
"We had our chances" said Bayside coach Jamie Ferguson. "The guys played hard, never gave up. Just were not able to get another in. But all together I'm feeling pretty good about where we're at and looking forward to the first round."
The Admirals (10-2-0) will likely travel to the Montgomery area for the opening round of the playoffs. The Bulldogs are 14-1-1 with their only loss to the Admirals earlier this season by the same score 2-1 at UMS-W.
