Morgan Freeman, the world-famous actor with one of the most recognizable voices in Hollywood, who spends time in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, was seen at a bar at The Wharf Monday night.
A group of locals were at 8 Reale OBAL, a speakeasy in the Orange Beach entertainment district, and spotted the Oscar-winning actor, who is known to spend time on the Gulf Coast and has a house on the island.
He is spotted from time to time frequenting local dining locations around Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. In 2021, his appearance at Mikado Japanese Steakhouse in Gulf Shores was captured by the restaurant owner’s daughter on social media, according to AL.com.
Freeman grew up in Mississippi after being born in Memphis and is known for iconic roles and movies such as 1989’s “Driving Miss Daisy,” 1994’s “Shawshank Redemption” and 2004’s “Million Dollar Baby.” In comedies “Bruce Almighty” and sequel “Evan Almighty,” he played God, his voice already having become one of the most recognizable in Hollywood. His narration has set the tone for movies such as 2005's "March of the Penguins," 2005's "War of the Worlds," 2014's "The Lego Movie," He also played Lucious Fox in the Dark Knight Batman series and starred as Nelson Mandela in “Invictus” in 2009.
Also in 2021, during an interview while promoting his movie “The Killing of Kenneth Chamberlin,” Freeman voiced his support for police agencies and their work, saying he did not support “defunding the police,” according to OBA.
Freeman’s support of local police agencies, a view that is widely shared among Gulf Coast communities, was more recently highlighted when he stood as a member of a Gulf Shores police panel that was tasked with screening recruits, according to AL.com. He talked with the recruits and after stood for a photo with other panel members.
