FAIRHOPE, Ala. — A couple from Summiton, Ala. decided to enjoy one more extended family vacation during spring break. Jody and Heather Harrison are both schoolteachers who thought they had at least three more weeks to go before the newest member of their family was to arrive.

However, while enjoying the beach in an Orange Beach condo with their parents Sharon and Michael Harrison of Dora, Ala. and Randy and Debra Hockensmith of Summiton and other family members, Heather unexpectedly went into labor at 6 a.m., Monday — St. Patrick’s Day. They arrived at Thomas Hospital at 7:30 a.m., and 8-pound, 9-ounce Maddix Harrison was born at 2.49 p.m. The couple has four other children: Matthew, 5, Micah, 6, Emma, 3, and Joe, who will soon celebrate his 2nd birthday.

After Heather is discharged from the hospital, the family, which doesn’t claim to be Irish, plans to return to the beach for a few more days of relaxation before returning home.
