Updated story, 5 p.m. July 19:

One person has died and five were injured, including a Fairhope resident, after a two-vessel crash that occurred Saturday night in the Intracoastal Waterway near Wolf Bay in Orange Beach.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the collision happened about 8:10 p.m. Saturday, July 18, between a 27-foot 2024 Albury Brothers vessel and 23-foot 2013 Key West vessel. Kristin Delaney, 46, of Mobile, a passenger on the Albury Brothers, was transported with critical injuries to South Baldwin Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

There were eight people, including each operator, on each vessel. Five people were injured, including Brooks Delaney, 51, of Fairhope, also a passenger on the Albury Brothers, who was transported to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola. The vessel’s operator, 49-year-old Drew Delaney of Mobile, was not injured, according to a statement from ALEA.

The operator of the Key West vessel, 32-year-old Cameron Neil of Houma, Louisiana, was injured and also taken to Sacred Heart along with passengers Talyn Faulkner, 25, of Raceland, Louisiana; John Lyle, 28, of Houma, Louisiana; and Rayford Reeves, 34, of Schiever, Louisiana.

ALEA said those who weren’t injured and both vessels were transported to the Wharf Docks in Orange Beach.

Troopers with ALEA’s Marine Patrol Division continue to investigate.  The agency did not give details on the cause of the collision or any potential charges.

The Blue Marlin Grand Championship wrapped up Saturday evening, with the last weigh-in and winners celebration finishing around 8 p.m. According to the tournament’s live scoring website CatchStat.com, Brookes Delaney was listed as an angler for the team Cold Motion. They were on the board on Saturday for a sailfish, and the tournament posted a video of two other women on the team pulling it in.

Nine people were hospitalized after a boating accident near The Wharf Marina in the Intracoastal Waterway Saturday night.

According to Orange Beach Public Relations Manager Marc Anderson, city police responded to assist Orange Beach Fire Rescue and Alabama Law Enforcement Agency responders around 8:30 p.m. July 18 in “locating the injured parties, working landing zones for Air Care and ensuring scene security.”

Orange Beach Fire Rescue, Medstar Ambulance, Gulf Shores Fire Rescue and a medical helicopter transported nine patients to area hospitals, the press release from the city said.

The Blue Marlin Grand Championship wrapped up Saturday evening, with the final weigh-in and winners celebration finishing around 8 p.m. It was not immediately clear if the vessel(s) and people involved in the accident were attending the event.

ALEA led vessel crash operations on site and will lead the investigation.
