ORANGE BEACH, AL – On Aug. 8 the Orange Beach Planning Commission will hear two requests that could ultimately mean an 88-townhouse neighborhood at the corner of Canal Road and Griffith Marina Road.

The owners of Orange Beach RV and Storage are asking to rezone land in that location and for a preliminary site plan approval for the development. Dewberry/Preble-Rish, under the name of Spyglass planned unit development, are the applicants.

"They're obtaining PUD rezoning and also preliminary plat approval to construct the private roadway and drainage improvements within the development," Orange Beach Planner Griffin Powell said.

First the applicants are asking the commission to rezone 9.95 acres at the intersection from general business to a PUD for townhouses. The same applicant in another proposal asks for preliminary plat approval for 19 total acres to subdivide into 88 townhouses.

The commission meets for a work session at 3 p.m. and then will have a regular session at 4 p.m. in council Chambers.

Other items on the agenda include new regulations to ban barbed wire, razor wire and similar fences in Orange Beach, Winnetka Properties is seeking to construct a controlled climate storage facility at 24130 Canal Road and Hudson Marina owners Rodney and Laurie Jones are seeking site plan approval to convert and existing garage into an office.
