August is heating up with plenty of ways to get out of the house and into the fun.
Whether it's roasting marshmallows on the beach, cheering on rodeo riders, hunting for farm finds at a chicken swap or enjoying live music under the stars, there's something happening across Baldwin County all week long.
If your calendar is looking a little empty, consider this your official warning. Between bingo, burgers and bucking broncs, the biggest challenge may be deciding where to go first. Just don't ask the chickens at the swap for directions — they tend to wing it.
What: The Town of Silverhill will host its Back to School Bash featuring bingo, burgers and family-friendly activities to celebrate the start of the school year. Community members are invited to gather for an evening of food, games and fun.
When: Thursday, Aug. 6, 6-8 p.m.
Where: 16111 South Ave., Silverhill
Price: Free admission
What: The City of Gulf Shores will host its annual S’mores on the Shore event featuring campfires, music and family-friendly entertainment on the beach. Activities include free s’mores packets, a live DJ, a balloon artist, face painting and fresh watermelon provided by Wheeles Realty. Local organizations and vendors, including the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo, Gulf Shores & Orange Beach Tourism and the Gulf Shores Police Department K-9 Division, will also participate. Food will be available for purchase from Hog Wild Food Truck and the Lions Club. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs and enjoy an evening on the Gulf Shores Public Beach. What: The Jennifer Claire Moore Foundation will host its 28th Annual Professional Rodeo featuring professional rodeo competition, specialty acts and family-friendly entertainment. The event includes a Kid’s Corral before each performance, a calf scramble for children ages 6-12 and appearances by a professional rodeo clown. Livestock and event management will be provided by Bo Campbell Rodeo Productions and contestants will be affiliated with the Professional Cowboy Association. Concessions, vendors and additional activities will be available. The covered arena allows the event to take place rain or shine. Gates open at 5 p.m., the Kid’s Corral opens at 5:30 p.m. and rodeo action begins at 7:30 p.m. each night. What: Elberta Farmers Co-Op hosts its monthly Chicken Swap where attendees can buy, sell and trade chickens along with other farm-related goods. The event brings together local farmers, backyard poultry keepers and community members interested in livestock and rural living. What: Corner Copia Gardens will host a live performance by The 3rd Spaces as part of its Summer Music Series. Guests can enjoy music in the courtyard while dining from the AteUpWok food truck. The Atrium bar will also be open during the event. The nursery will remain open for shopping throughout the evening.
