Three Bayside Academy teams traveled to Montgomery for a VEX Robotics tournament on Jan. 24, where each team placed within the top five.

The fourth-grade team placed 4th overall and won the Excellence Award, which qualified them for the state tournament.

The middle school girls’ team placed second and won the Design Award.

The middle school boys’ team debuted a brand new robot and consistently received high scores throughout the entire tournament. They were ranked third going into the finals, and they are set to improve as they continue to practice.

"We are extremely proud of how hard they worked to build a new robot and learn to drive it in a very short amount of time," a statement from the school said on the middle school boys' team.

Currently, Bayside has one elementary team and one middle school team qualified for state. The statement said two more teams might qualify as well.
