LOXLEY, Alabama - Elberta Middle School student Fletcher Ard repeated as champion at the 2017 Baldwin County Spelling Bee held Thursday, Feb. 9 at the Loxley Civic Center.

Ard, a seventh grader, will be eligible to qualify one more time and claim the title of three-time champion. Andrew Williams claimed four titles as a student at Bay Minette Elementary and Central Baldwin Middle.

Bayside's Kate Ginger was named runner-up.

A total of 32 students from Baldwin County's public schools, along with Bayside, Bayshore Christian and Central Christian Schools competed in the event.

Qualifiers at the local level go on to compete at the state event in Alabaster for the right to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee held each year in the Washington, D.C. area.

Ard finished as the runner-up at last year's state competition.
