BAY MINETTE, Ala. — The Daphne Trojans won the girls 2016 Roundball Classic title at Faulkner State Community College Saturday night. Krysta Wright had a game-high 17 points to lead Daphne to a 41-34 victory over Spanish Fort in the championship game of the Baldwin County tournament in Bay Minette.

McKenna Pierce added 10 points for Daphne and Jennifer Darby came down with nine rebounds for the Trojans (12-4), who extended their win streak to nine with the county tournament crown. The Toros (9-4) were led by Rose Gul with nine points.

The Trojans led 12-11 after the first quarter, but trailed Spanish Fort 26-21 at the half and 29-28 heading into the fourth period.

Daphne reestablished and maintained a lead down the stretch, but the Toros kept the pressure up until the final minute.

“Our girls made the adjustments that we asked of them at halftime,” said Daphne head coach Mason Dunn. “And that helped us. Our defense stepped up and gave us more opportunities at our end.”

The Trojans and Toros meet again in AHSAA Class 6A Area 2 league play for the first time on Jan. 17 at Daphne High at 6 p.m.
