ROBERTSDALE, Alabama — Dentists at Robertsdale Dental Care once again proved they have a heart, hosting the annual Dentists with a Heart event on May 27, offering free tooth extractions.

The event began 10 years ago in Robertsdale when Dr. Jason Northcutt said he wanted to do something to help those in need in the community.

“I was invited to go on a mission trip with a local church,” he said, “but I had two young babies at home and didn’t want to leave them, so I decided that I could be a missionary right here at home.”

After doing it on his own the first year, Jason Northcutt said his brother, Dr. David Northcutt, owner of Northcutt Dental, pitched in to help and he now offers the service at all of his dental offices in Baldwin and Mobile counties.

Jason Northcutt’s partner, Dr. Jeremy Hardy, also helps out, as well as two other dentist friends, Dr. Frank Melazzo of Birmingham, and Dr. John York of Arab.

“They come down and we cook out afterward,” Northcutt said. “We try to make it a fun event for them.”

Staff at Bay Pediatric Dental and staff from Dr. Barry Booth’s office also help out with the project, Northcutt said.

Patients began lining up to register as early as 5 a.m. for the event which was held from 7 a.m. to noon. The annual event has drawn as many as 150 participants, according to Robertsdale Dental staff members. More than 85 patients had signed up by 10 a.m. on Friday.

Robertsdale Dental Care opened in 1998 serving central Baldwin County as a general dentistry practice. Dr. Jason Northcutt and team have grown exponentially including the addition of Dr. Jeremy Hardy, and added services including sedation and cosmetic services.

Currently, Northcutt is an area leader in sedation dentistry with a wide array of services including dental implants, full-mouth reconstruction and veneers with Hardy offering limited orthodontia services in addition to general dentistry.
