FAIRHOPE — The second Battle of the Bay soccer showcase featured the best high school players from Mobile and Baldwin County Saturday.

Unfortunately, for the Baldwin teams, the Mobile players came away with a sweep.

The Mobile girls outscored Baldwin 5-1 while the Mobile-Baldwin boys match went down to the final scoreless minute before Patrick Hall of McGill-Toolen Catholic threaded a ball between the posts for the 1-0 win.

Allie Griffin of Fairhope accounted for Baldwin’s only goal when she lobbed an 18-yarder over the Mobile keeper’s reach.

Chloe Estaphan of the McGill-Toolen Lady Jackets scored twice, once in each half, as did teammate Jordan McWhorter of Murphy. One goal was credited to an inadvertent Baldwin own-goal.

An estimated 1,000 fans showed up for the second annual showcase event which featured college coaches Brain Person of the University of Mobile (Women’s) and Peter Fuller of the UM Rams.

Person takes over for Uwe Tittl who coached the Baldwin Girls while Person coached the Mobile girls.

Mobile swept both matches last year as well.

Event organizer and chairman Tom Sinclair was pleased with the turnout after a similar crowd last year thinned due to rainy weather. “Everyone has had a lot of fun,” he said.
