DAPHNE, Ala.—The Daphne Police Department has arrested John David Reid, 18, and Charles Labarron Rudolph, 19, both of Daphne, in connection with a drive-by shooting that occurred at 7:30 p.m. Thursday on North Court in the TimberCreek subdivision.
Reid and Rudolph have both been charged with attempted murder.
The drive-by incident stemmed from a prior argument, authorities say, that happened between 6 and 6:30 p.m. at the Texaco gas station at the intersection of U.S. Highway 90 and Alabama Highway 181.
“It was just an escalation of an argument,” Daphne Police Lt. Jud Beedy said. “They were arguing over girls. They’re 18-, 19-year-old boys.”
A black Dodge pick-up truck and a Honda Accord drove by a male’s house on North Court, according to a news release.
Authorities said witnesses overheard a verbal exchange between drivers of the pick-up, the Accord and a Chevrolet Crown Victoria.
Reid climbed out of the passenger window of the Crown Victoria and fired a .22 caliber-pistol six times at the victim in his yard, according to police, who said he confessed to the crime Friday.
After the victim had run into his house, Reid struck the house with another shot, according to the release. “The bullet hit some metal grading,” Beedy said.
Authorities also arrested the driver of the Crown Victoria, Rudolph, who police said confessed to his part in the incident.
Police are conducting an ongoing investigation including interviewing several witnesses, Beedy said.
