2 a.m. blaze claims Cameron Court home

DAPHNE, Ala. — A dog was killed during a fire that destroyed a house in Cameron Court Thursday morning.

The pet was believed to have been overcome by smoke; no other deaths or injuries occurred, Daphne Fire Chief Bo White said.

The residence was home to a husband, wife and two sons.

“One of the sons noticed a glow coming from the garage as he arrived at the house,” White said. “He woke his family and by the time they ran for the front door, the entire rear portion of the house was aglow.”

The family called the Daphne Fire Department around 2 a.m. and 14 firefighters — including several from Spanish Fort — arrived eight minutes later, according to White.

The fire took an hour to douse, though some troublesome “hot spots” including areas behind cabinets took a more time to cool, White said.

“Though the cause is still unknown, we believe it started with an electrical problem in the garage,” Chip Martin, Daphne fire marshal, said.
