The new Stonebridge Elementary School is scheduled to open its doors for the 2022-2023 school year with Misty Wilkinson as principal. Wilkinson is currently principal at Loxley Elementary School, where she has worked for the past eight years.
Stonebridge Elementary will open as the newest K - sixth elementary school in the system. The additional elementary school will take pressure off of Spanish Fort Elementary and Rockwell Elementary.
“The task of beginning a new school is very exciting and is also challenging,” Wilkinson said. “The culture of the school is so important. Stonebridge will start from the beginning as a Leader in Me school to help build the climate and culture into a family atmosphere. I also enjoy the planning and organizing aspect and I am looking forward to seeing the school community take shape. I am humbled that I am a part of this wonderful opportunity.”
During her eight years at Loxley Elementary, the school was named a Franklin Covey “Leader In Me” School. Wilkinson, a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University with a degree in Elementary Education and a Master of Education in Educational Administration from the University of South Alabama, taught at Spanish Fort Elementary for eleven years before becoming an assistant principal at Foley Elementary.
“I am beyond excited,” she said. “Over the last eight years, I have grown a lot as an administrator. I have been in awe at the trust and family that the Loxley community has grown into.”
Stonebridge Elementary is funded by the “Pay As You Go” program. It is one of several projects being built through the program where construction costs will be paid off completely in a four-year period without any long-term bonds or additional taxes.
