DAPHNE — With over 100 vendors expected at this year’s Jubilee Festival — which is scheduled for Saturday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. — Joe Sheffield is one of five Daphne artists who will showcase his artwork.
Sheffield isn’t new to the event. He has been selling his artwork at the festival since about 1992, he said.
Sheffield uses watercolors to paint scenes of Mobile Bay and Baldwin County from the turn of the 20th century, he said.
He will work on two pieces at his booth during the festival, Sheffield said.
“I would listen to the stories that my father and grandfather would tell,” Sheffield said of his inspiration. His grandfather would tell stories about the bay boats that people used for transportation in the early 1900s.
Other Daphne artists to be featured this weekend include Kendra Bennett, silhouettes; Gary Bream, stained glass; Dudley Martens, woodwork; and Chris Hartsfield, watercolors.
The festival is a juried art show, Angela Kimsey, special events coordinator with the Eastern Shore Chamber of Commerce, said.
Only original artwork is eligible for the show, Kimsey said.
