Pet Portraits to Benefit BARC

The Baldwin County Humane Society has made arrangements with Pet Portrait Network to have four pet portrait events to help raise funds for our new adoption center and ongoing rescue work. Each location will take reservations for a 30-minute appointment. Additional portraits are available at reasonable prices and owners can be included in portraits at no additional cost.

• April 18 at Pet Supermarket, Daphne; April 25 at Petsense in Foley; May 2 at Tractor Supply in Bay Minette

• Minimum $25 donation, included 30-minute portrait session and an 8x10 portrait

Ballroom Dance Classes

Enjoy a buffet dinner, cash bar and one hour of dance instruction followed by one hour of open dance floor. Reservations are required. Partners are welcome, but not necessary.

Ark of India: An Alabama artist explores Southern Asia

It is an account of late 19th and early 20th century India as seen by Alabama artist, Roderick D. MacKenzie, using his paintings, drawings, sculptures, and most importantly, photographs and writings. MacKenzie spent more than a decade in India, a place he described as exotic, dangerous and colorful. MacKenzie was the official painter of the Delhi Durbar in 1903, which marked the coronation of King Edward VII.

Blue Star Memorial Highway Dedication

The Montrose Garden Club is proud to announce the dedication of approximately 2.3 miles of Scenic Highway 98 as a Blue Star Memorial Highway, honoring all men and women of the United States who have served in the armed forces. Everyone is welcome. A special invitation is extended to all veterans.

Mullet Man Triathlon

An addition to the Annual Interstate Mullet Toss and Gulf Coast’s Greatest Beach Party, promises a great course, super volunteers, awards three deep and overall, as well as a post-race party with fabulous food and fun. A portion of the proceeds will go to local youth charities in Florida and Alabama, along with the Leukemia Lymphoma Society Team in Training. Registration will be cut off at 500 participants, so get your applications in soon.

Waterway Village Zydeco & Crawfish Festival

Sink your teeth into some hot, juicy, lip-smacking crawfish while dancing to the infectious rhythms of some of the best Zydeco bands from around the South. A contribution for each fish flung will go to local youth charities, including local school education and prevention program from the Community Drug and Alcohol Council Inc.

“The Fantastic Toyshop”

Presented by Bay Shore Ballet Theatre. Danced to the whimsical score of Rossini, and arranged by Resphigi, this endearing story is full of surprises, hilarity, and charm, with a story set in an amazing toy shop in southern France around the time of 1860. The ballet is performed by more than 60 talented dancers from Fairhope and surrounding bay area cities. Company wardrobe mistress Donna Williams lends her expertise with costume design and execution, and the full scale sets and scenery are provided by SDS Scenic Designs.
