GULF SHORES AND ORANGE BEACH, ALA. – Summer 2019 is set to sizzle in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach with athletic events from the sportsplexes to the sand. The United States Specialty Sports Association (USSSA) alone is hosting nine baseball and softball tournaments, bringing more than 1,200 teams to the beach in June and July.
“In 2018, USSSA tournaments generated 48,445 room nights and $58.54 million in economic impact,” said Beth Gendler, vice president of sales for the Gulf Shores & Orange Beach Sports Commission. “With more than 200 additional teams over last year, plus their families and fans heading to the Alabama Gulf Coast in 2019, local businesses should feel the love. We are proud to facilitate these events alongside USSSA and invite each family to play hard at the fields and throughout our beach communities.”
The following USSSA events will take place at the Gulf Shores and Orange Beach Sportsplexes in June and July:
- LuLu’s Hot Trot for ARC 5K Run/Walk (June 15)
- USTA Summer Slam Tennis Tournament (June 21-23)
- Dance Grand Nationals (July 2-6)
- The Shark Run (July 4)
- Gulf Coast Region Beach Volleyball Grand Championship (July 6)
- Waterville USA Flow Tour National Championship (Aug. 17).
- Wrapping up the summer sports lineup is the Brett/Robinson Alabama Coastal Triathlon Sept. 7.
