MICAH GREEN / GULF COAST MEDIA..Two sea turtles, a green and a loggerhead, were released at Shell Beach after rehabilitation at the Gulfarium C.A.R.E. Center in Florida. ..Turmeric, the loggerhead, was hooked by a recreational fisherman at Gulf State Park Pier on August 3rd. The GSP team acted quickly to secure the turtle and it was transported to the Gulfarium C.A.R.E. Center where the team discovered a healing boat strike wound on their shell as well as a possible shark bite scar. Radiographs also revealed two internal hooks - one in Turmeric’s mouth and one in their stomach. With supportive treatment (including cotton balls and mineral oil), and a successful scope procedure, the Gulfarium team was able to remove the hook and line...To report a sea turtle in distress or a concern along the Alabama Gulf Coast, call 1-866-SEA-TURTLE (732-8878).
