Here are updates to closures and changes in Baldwin County due to anticipated extreme cold and possible winter weather early this week. This list will be updated. To submit a note to it, email kayla@gulfcoastmedia.com.
Jan. 21
The City of Fairhope has decided to keep all city facilities, including offices and garbage services, closed on Wednesday, Jan. 22. Updates will be provided as the city plans to reschedule the State of the City event for Thursday, Jan. 24. Additionally, Quail Creek Golf Course and the Fairhope Public Library will remain closed until Thursday, Jan. 23. Please note that the Fairhope Municipal Court session originally set for Wednesday, Jan. 22, has also been canceled.
Foley's non-emergency offices will remain closed Wednesday, Jan. 23. The Foley City Council meeting scheduled for Tuesday has been rescheduled for Thursday starting at 4 p.m. at Foley City Hall. The Foley Railroad Museum and Holmes Medical Museum will also be closed Wednesay. City garbage and recyclable materials collection are scheduled to resume Thursday when the Baldwin County landfill reopens. Material scheduled for collection Tuesday and Thursday will be picked up Thursday Jan. 23. Wednesday and Friday collections will take place Friday, Jan. 24.
All USA Health physician offices and clinics, including the Mitchell Cancer Institute locations in Mobile and Baldwin counties, will remain closed on Wednesday, Jan. 22. USA Health acute care facilities, including University Hospital, Children’s & Women’s Hospital, Providence Hospital and their Freestanding Emergency Department on Hillcrest Road will remain open. All elective procedures and diagnostic tests previously scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 22 will be rescheduled. Hospital visitation may be limited during severe weather events.
The Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) is advising the public that many county health department locations across the state will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 21, and Wednesday, Jan. 22. This includes Baldwin County.
All Infirmary Health Diagnostic and Medical Clinic (DMC) locations will close at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 21, and remain closed all day on Wednesday, Jan. 22. Patients are encouraged to call the main DMC line at (251) 435-1200 for questions or assistance. Physicians and nurses will be on call to provide guidance and support by phone during this time.
Jan. 20
The City of Loxley’s city offices will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 21. The Loxley Public Library will also be closed.
All Flora-Bama properties will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 21. This includes the Main Flora-Bama, Yacht Club, Ole River Grill, Marina and the Liquor Store.
Orange Beach city offices will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday. Essential services will continue as usual. A decision regarding timing of operations on Thursday, Jan. 23, will be made at a later date. Additionally, the Orange Beach City Council meeting scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 21, has been rescheduled to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28. Republic Services will not run any trash or recycling routes Tuesday or Wednesday in Orange Beach. Recycling will be picked up Thursday, and trash routes will run on Saturday. All public restroom facilities on the beach, Waterfront Park, Backcountry Trail and at the Wind and Water Learning Center are closed and will reopen Thursday, Jan. 23, weather permitting.

Orange Beach City Schools and the central office will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 22, in addition to doing virtual learning Tuesday, Jan. 21. No assignments will be made.
The Solid Waste Disposal Authority of Baldwin County has announced that all landfills will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 21, and Wednesday, Jan. 22, with no garbage pickup on those days. Thursday, Jan. 23, routes will operate as normal, and landfills and offices will reopen. Garbage routes scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 21, will be picked up on Friday, Jan. 24, and those scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 22, will be picked up on Saturday, Jan. 25. Additionally, the Magnolia Landfill will be open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25, and Bay Minette Transfer Station will be open 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. MacBride and Eastfork Landfills will be open normal hours on Saturday.
All City of Gulf Shores offices and facilities will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 21, and Wednesday, Jan. 22. Gulf Shores Police Department, Gulf Shores Fire Rescue and other emergency services will continue normal operations. Wednesday curbside trash and recycling routes will move to Thursday, and Thursday routes will move to Friday. Tuesday and Wednesday debris pickup routes will be picked up Thursday, and Thursday and Friday routes will be picked up Friday.

The City of Daphne is suspending its solid waste operations on Tuesday, Jan. 21, and Wednesday, Jan. 22, and is expected to resume them on Thursday, Jan. 23. The city asks residents to place garbage bins out on Thursday for expected pick up Thursday, Friday and possibly Saturday. All city operations will be closed on Tuesday, and a decision will be made Tuesday evening regarding operations for Wednesday. The Daphne Senior Center will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The City of Robertsdale will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 22. They will be open for a half-day on Tuesday and continue to track the winter storm.
In addtion to doing virtual learning on Tuesday, Jan. 21, Orange Beach City Schools will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 22.
De Soto's Seafood Kitchen will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 21.
The Wharf will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 21.
Baldwin County Sherrif Office administrative offices will be closed to the public Tuesday, Jan. 21, and Wednesday, Jan. 22. “Don’t worry – we still have boots on the ground and in our facilities to ensure our communities remain safe,” a Facebook post from the agency said.

City of Bay Minette facilities will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday, Jan. 21-22. Additionally, the regularly scheduled Bay Minette City Council meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 21, has been rescheduled to Thursday, Jan. 23, at Bay Minette City Hall.
Jan. 19
Orange Beach City Schools will participate in virtual learning on Tuesday, Jan. 21.
The status for school on Wednesday, Jan. 22, will be determined as soon as possible based on any precipitation and the hourly temperature forecast, a statement from the district sent Sunday says. If Tuesday’s forecast holds, Wednesday may be virtual as well. The return to in-person instruction is contingent on precipitation and road conditions. All staff should work from home, maintain regular work hours, and remain available via email and phone.
Gulf Shores City Schools will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 21, due to extremely cold temperatures and anticipated wintry weather. This includes Tuesday Tour and all extracurricular activities. A decision regarding school closures for Wednesday, Jan. 22, will be made at a later time.
All Coastal Alabama Community College campuses will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 21, and Wednesday, Jan. 22, due to incoming winter weather.
Each of the 17 Catholic Schools in the Archdiocese of Mobile will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 21, and Wednesday, Jan. 22, due to the expected winter storm. On Wednesday, school officials will assess properties and buildings for safety and operations.
Baldwin County Public Schools will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 21, and Wednesday, Jan. 22, due to weather reports. Regular classes are scheduled to start back on Thursday.
Baldwin County Commission will close all county-maintained facilities, including courthouses, on Tuesday, Jan. 21, and Wednesday, Jan. 22, with facilities scheduled to reopen Thursday, Jan. 23, pending weather conditions. The county Regional Juvenile Detention Center and Corrections Center will remain open. The Sheriff's Office Administrative Offices will be closed to the public but operations will continue at the direction of the Sheriff.
