Road conditions due to Winter Storm Enzo, which dumped record-breaking amounts of snow in one day yesterday, have not changed, according to the Alabama Department of Transportation Wednesday morning.
Here are some updates from across agencies and areas in Baldwin County to know. While the snow is no longer falling, freezing temperatures will continue today and tonight, making conditions icy and potentially hazardous.
Updates will be added here as needed.
ROAD CONDITIONS
Baldwin County remains under an Impassable Roads Advisory.
The Baldwin County Highway Department is actively patrolling roads and assessing safety. Due to the size of Baldwin County, these widespread impacts are being felt across multiple areas, with some regions experiencing greater challenges in accessibility. Travel is strongly discouraged unless absolutely necessary.
The W.C. Holmes Bridge on Highway 59 in Gulf Shores reopened today at 11 a.m. with one lane designated for northbound traffic and one for southbound traffic. Officers will be regulating the flow, allowing only a few vehicles at a time. The City of Gulf Shores warned the bridge will be closed again at any moment if conditions warrant, "and we anticipate this will occur."
"Please be aware that road conditions continue to be unfavorable, and we expect the roads to refreeze after sunset. It will likely take a few days of sunshine and wind to fully dry the roads. We strongly urge residents and guests to travel only if there is an emergency."
