When students and teachers walked through the doors of Florence B. Mathis Elementary School this year, they were greeted with a playful surprise: halls adorned with vibrant, game-themed decorations. The transformation was the handiwork of Wheeles Realty, a local real estate office in Gulf Shores, which took on the project at the request of Principal Shannon McCurdy.
McCurdy reached out to Wheeles Realty in June, seeking a creative touch to uplift the school's atmosphere for the new academic year. With only three weeks before teachers returned to prepare their classrooms, the team at Wheeles Realty, led by Kristie Wheeles, sprang into action. The group, which included agents Candyce Heflin, Adrianna Burleson, Jenny Hager, Savanna Grissom, Evan David and Demetrios Lambidonis, dedicated countless hours to bring McCurdy's vision to life.
The theme, aptly chosen as "games," featured a nostalgic mix of old and new favorites. Among the highlights was a "Guess Who" wall, where teachers' photos were transformed into Disney characters, much to the delight of returning staff. Another standout was the intricate design of Pac-Man and Mario Kart displays, which proved to be the most time-consuming but rewarding aspects of the project.
As teachers trickled in ahead of the new school year, they expressed their surprise and gratitude for the unexpected treat. Wheeles Realty's hard work leaving both the school staff and the realty team thrilled with the outcome.
"Lots of hours, and hot glue burns went in to getting the project done and we are so in love with how it turned out," Wheeles said.
