Wawa announces 4 more locations for Baldwin County stores

Wawa will open two stores in Fairhope and two more in Daphne and Robertsdale in the coming year, officials with the company announced this week.

Executives with the East Coast convenience store chain held press conferences in Mobile and Spanish Fort this week to reveal the exact location of the Mobile and Baldwin County sites.

In Baldwin County, the four locations announced Friday are at U.S. 98 and Baldwin 44 (Twin Beech Road) in Fairhope; Ala. 181 and Ala. 104 in Fairhope; U.S. 98 and Johnson Road in Daphne; and Ala. 59 and Baldwin 48 in Robertsdale.

The first two Mobile stores will be built at the intersection of Cottage Hill and Sollie Roads and the intersection of Schillinger Road and Old Government Street Road.

Wawa expanded operations into Florida 10 years ago and now operates 250 stores across the state and employes more than 10,000 people.

Now, officials plan to expand across the Panhandle into lower Alabama with a relatively modest plan of 40 stores over the next eight to 10 years.

Officials have visited Baldwin County several times over the last year to tout the impact the new stores will have.

Wawa officials said the company will invest about $6.5 million per store and that each will employ roughly 35 employes with salaries beginning at $15 per hour. The total impact after the construction of all 40 locations may result in an investment of nearly $260 million and 1,400 new jobs.

On a visit to Baldwin County in early February, officials donated $6,000 to Prodisee Pantry in Spanish Fort to help pack 150 boxes of food for families in need. During the visit Wawa officials showcased the community partnerships they build in each location through “The Wawa Foundation.”
