Gulf State Park held its Dive Against Debris on March 22 where volunteers gathered together working to remove fishing lines, lures, weights and other debris from the water beneath the State Park Pier, according to the park's Facebook post on the event.
At the event, snorkelers and licensed divers worked to clear the Gulf along the Alabama shore of any trash they could find. Partners for the event included Gulf Shores Fire Rescue, Orange Beach Marine Police, Bon Secour Fire Rescue, Down Under Dive Shop and the Gulf Shores High School Environmental Club.
"Events like Dive Against Debris are vital in reducing the risk of entanglement for both anglers and marine species," the Facebook post reads, "helping to create a better experience for visitors while maintaining the safety of sea life and the environment."
