The undisputed queens of the softball diamonds returned home to Orange Beach with a fourth Blue Map trophy as state champions in as many varsity seasons.
When the Makos returned home Wednesday afternoon, their first stop was to walk through Orange Beach City Schools lined with fellow students, community members, parents and teachers.
The celebration continued Friday morning at the Performing Arts Center where the rest of the community filled the seats with all the pomp and circumstance provided by the Orange Beach marching band. It was there that Mako head softball coach and athletic director Shane Alexander made a proclamation.
“This is the best softball team in the country,” Alexander said. “If there’s any team that sees this video on social media, come to paradise, we’ll play you.”
Orange Beach finished No. 4 in MaxPreps’ national rankings with out-of-state wins over teams from Florida, Mississippi and Kentucky.
