Traffic/detour update: Intersection improvements coming to SR-59 and CR-12 in Foley

Motorists should prepare for traffic changes and detours for the next eight to 10 weeks in Foley as works begins to improve the intersection at SR-59 and CR-12. Work is scheduled to begin on Thursday, Feb. 6.

What to Expect

  • New turn lanes:
    • Right turn lanes will be added on SR-59 North and South.
    • Left turn lanes will be added on CR-12.
  • Additional improvements:
    • Culvert extensions
    • Signal upgrades
  • Traffic detours:
    • The east side of CR-12 will be temporarily closed.
    • Motorists should use Foley Beach Express and CR-20/Miflin Road as detour routes.
    • The detour starts Thursday, Feb. 6, at 10 a.m. and will last approximately eight to 10 weeks.
  • Work Zone Safety:
    • Follow all posted traffic signs.
    • Reduce speed and use caution in the work zone and along detour routes.

Project Details

  • Cost: $1.83 million
  • Contractor: McElhenney Construction Company, LLC
  • Expected Completion: Fall 2025
  • Funded by: ATRIP (Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation and Improvement Program)
