Tower opens at newly named Gulf Shores International Airport

Visitors who fly to Alabama’s beaches will now arrive at Gulf Shores International Airport. The new name was bestowed upon the property Wednesday during a ribbon cutting ceremony at the facility’s recently completed air traffic control tower.

During the ceremony officials unveiled the new logo and brand campaign, “Fly to Alabama’s Beaches.” The airfield will take the name Jack Edwards Field to honor the late Alabama Congressman.

“The name is a major change for the airport,” said Airport Director Scott Fuller. “It’s just one aspect of all the many changes we’ve made, and that are taking place, as we prepare for an exciting, new future for the airport and the communities’ it serves.”
