Mutts Across America recently selected The Haven for Animals in Fairhope as a top shelter in the U.S.

The local nonprofit also received a $5,000 grant from the group. The grants are awarded each year to one shelter in each state.

"We are very proud to receive this top shelter recognition in the U.S. from MuttNation," The Haven Executive Director Michael Graham said. "The special recognition demonstrates our agency's comprehensive lifesaving programs continue to positively impact the people and homeless pets of Fairhope and surrounding communities. This special award would not be possible without our dedicated donors, our team of good board members, the city of Fairhope and Mayor Sherry Sullivan, volunteers and our small staff."

The Haven is a no-kill animal shelter in Baldwin County. Since 2000, over 10,800 homeless cats and dogs have found loving homes thanks to the efforts of The Haven. The nonprofit works with like-minded rescue groups and government animal control shelters to end pet homelessness. For more information about The Haven visit HavenForAnimals.org.

The $5,000 grant will aid in providing lifesaving services like spay and neutering procedures for homeless animals.

The MuttNation Foundation was founded in 2009 by country music star Miranda Lambert and her mother, Bev Lambert. The nonprofit has a mission to promote the adoption of shelter pets, advance spay and neuter and educate the public about the benefits of these actions. The foundation has given over $250,000 in grants thanks to co-sponsor Tractor Supply Company. For more information about the MuttNation Foundation visit MuttNation.com.
