ROBERTSDALE, Alabama — More than 400 quilts from across the area were showcased over the weekend at the bi-annual Quilt Show hosted by the United Methodist Women’s group at the Robertsdale United Methodist Church. Quilts filled every room with several rooms designated with handmade signs by Sandra Peters, wife of the church’s pastor, the Rev. Sean Peters. The show also included featured quilter Karen Schutt of Pace, Florida, a member of the Stitch-N-Friends Quilt Club that meets monthly in Robertsdale; and a tribute in the sanctuary to longtime Robertsdale resident Mertis Childress, featured quilter in 2007, who died in January at the age of 98. Proceeds from the $5 admission charge and soup and salad lunch benefit local charities, Dr. Ben Roberts, missionary to Kenya, Africa; Under His Wings girls home in Robertsdale; Women’s Care Medical Center in Robertsdale, The Refuge For Women drug rehabilitation center in Elsanor and various RUMC projects including the food pantry, the We Care Fund School Ministry and Blue Lake Camp sponsorships. Several vendors were on hand including Buy the Inch fabrics, S.E.A. Quilt Shop of Gulf Shores, The Quilted Petal from Petal, Mississippi, Mewtelli’s of Pensacola and Sew Steady Bernina sewing machine dealer. The next quilt show will be held in 2019.
