The 2021 Parade of Homes kicks off Saturday

Custom doors, an oversized kitchen and reclaimed woodwork make this year’s 2021 Parade of Homes Showcase Home a stunning example of the beauty that comes from carefully planned details.

This 5,470 square foot home includes four bedrooms, four bathrooms, an office, flex room and second floor den and is located in the North Hills subdivision in Fairhope. The home sits at the highest point and has the best view of the neighborhood, lake and the Alabama sunsets.

Outside, the timber framed porch, copper gutters, trim and rain chains give the white parged brick exterior character and interest.

A four-foot-wide custom front door welcomes you into a wide entryway. The open floor plan lets you view the entire main living area while walls of windows flood the entire space with light.

Stewart & Whatley Builders’ founders, Ben Stewart and Tyler Whatley and their interior designer Mel Crane of Mel Crane Design have thought of every detail. One example is the hand-crafted archways that greet guests when they enter. Your eyes are led beyond it to the dining room where a custom furniture piece mimics the archway’s shape.

“Tyler and I designed the house to include things we both like. The doors and woodwork are cypress and we incorporated reclaimed wood beams in the living room to add some history. My favorite part of the house is the living room. On a nice cool night, you can open this wall and it’s wide open to the patio,” Stewart said.

The wall between the living room and outdoor patio is a custom 14-foot accordion door that folds open for a floor to ceiling open-air experience. The large covered back porch is perfect for entertaining with a built-in outdoor kitchen.

The heart of every home is the kitchen, and this oversized kitchen is no exception. The massive L-shaped island of Calacatta Macchia Vecchia stone waterfalls to the floor on one side while the other side offers seating for five. The kitchen has ample, inset cabinets painted deep olive with two stained wood furniture style cabinets with glass doors flanking the pantry entry. The design is tied into the living room with a stucco range hood that mimics the shape of the living room fireplace.

Visitors can browse the North Hills home along with 14 other newly constructed houses across Baldwin County as part of the Baldwin County Home Builders Association’s annual Tour of Homes happening the next two weekends. There is a $5 fee per person to enter the showcase home.

“I hope people see the quality of the house and appreciate the details. I hope the house speaks for itself,” Stewart said.
