MOBILE — Five NFL legends recently received a call to the hall and are set to be enshrined during a May 4 ceremony at The Grand Hotel in Point Clear when they officially join the Senior Bowl Hall of Fame.

Terron Armstead from the New Orleans Saints and Miami Dolphins, Geno Atkins from the Cincinnati Bengals, Jon Gruden from the Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Alex Mack from the Cleveland Browns and Atlanta Falcons and Richard Sherman from the Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers were selected as the newest members of the nation’s longest continually running college all-star game’s Hall of Fame.

Alongside them, three Rookies of the Year will join in on the celebration in Baldwin County this spring as Braden Fiske from the Los Angeles Rams (defensive), Ladd McConkey from the Los Angeles Chargers (co-offensive) and Bo Nix from the Denver Broncos (co-offensive) were recognized for their debut seasons. A two-time AHSAA state champion as a Pinson Valley Indian, Nix played his college ball at Auburn and Oregon.

“We are thrilled to welcome each member of the 2025 Senior Bowl Hall of Fame back to the Mobile area, where their remarkable careers began,” said Mobile Arts & Sports Association President Scott Cooper in a March 6 release. “It is truly an honor to celebrate the achievements of outstanding Senior Bowl alumni year after year. This year’s class is especially unique, and we are grateful that the Senior Bowl played a pivotal role in launching their journeys.”

Armstead played in the 2013 Senior Bowl, Sherman was in the 2011 contest, Atkins was a 2010 selection and a member of the 75th Anniversary team and Mack was on the 2009 Senior Bowl roster. Following appearances in 1999, 2005 and 2007, Gruden most recently head coached the North team to victory in 2019 but said the game was always a good stop on the evaluation train.

“It’s an honor to be selected to the Senior Bowl Hall of Fame. I took great pride in coaching the game and attending the game for many years,” Gruden said in the release. “This was by far the best evaluation tool we had to prepare for our drafts. The game features hard-nosed players that are serious about their careers. We drafted several good ones over my career.”

From the players’ perspective, Mack said the same processes they went through coming out of college helped them during their time in the pros from the first day.

“I really enjoyed my time at the Senior Bowl and really think it helped cement my draft position. Having the chance to compete against the other best prospects all week is a great way to showcase your skill,” Mack said in the release. “It is a stressful week because every practice feels like game day. I feel like the stress and the challenge is what made it feel so worthwhile. I was able to show how I could compete with the best, while learning a new offense and working with new people — all the things it takes to succeed on an NFL roster.”

Now they’ll be alongside more NFL greats forever in the Senior Bowl Hall of Fame which includes other former players such as Joe Namath, Mean Joe Green, Walter Payton, Dan Marino and Bo Jackson as well as coaches such as Tom Landry, Paul “Bear” Bryant and Eddie Robinson since its creation in 1988.

The Grand Hotel Golf Club & Spa in Point Clear is set to host the Hall of Fame ceremony on May 4 before the Senior Bowl hosts its fifth-annual Senior Bowl Charities Celebrity Golf Classic the following day, May 5, at Lakewood Golf Club.

“This exclusive event will pair over 20 foursomes with celebrities from across the football world, including the five Senior Bowl Hall of Fame inductees and three Rookies of the Year,” the Thursday release says. “Proceeds from the golf tournament will directly benefit the Senior Bowl’s Mobile Baldwin Athletic Partnership, which provides needed resources, ranging from pants and jerseys to blocking sleds and video technology, for underfunded public high school football programs in the two-county area.”
