FOLEY — A Tennessee man is facing robbery charges after Foley Police responded to a call late Tuesday night at Tom Thumb convenience store on South McKenzie Street.
Lanny Ross Coggin of Springfield, Tennessee, was arrested and charged with robbery first degree after Foley Police officers responded to the call at approximately 11:40 p.m. Tuesday.
According to a release from the Foley PD, a white male, armed with a handgun, entered the store and demanded money from the cash drawer and the cashier complied with his demands. The man then fled the scene with cash from the register in a white SUV with Tennessee tags.
The suspect was described as an elderly white male, approximately 6 feet tall wearing a black and red jacket. The subject had on a face mask and was wearing a black walking boot on his left foot.
Shortly after, a Foley Police Officer found a white SUV with Tennessee tags matching the description of the suspect's vehicle parked at a local hotel. The hotel clerk provided the identity of an occupant that matched the description of the suspect involved in the robbery.
Foley Police Officers and Baldwin County Deputies secured the scene, and the suspect was called out from his room. When the suspect exited, he was holding what appeared to be a black pistol. Officers gave commands for the suspect to put down his weapon, and he immediately put down the pistol and complied.
A black and red jacket, black BB gun pistol, a face mask and currency were recovered after a search of the suspect's room and vehicle.
