Temporary stop sign installed at Foley intersection amid traffic changes

Posted

A temporary four-way stop sign has been placed at the intersection of Baldwin County 12 and James Road due to ongoing construction at the nearby intersection of Baldwin County 12 and Alabama 59.

The changes, effective since Feb. 6, come as part of a road project aimed at improving the area’s traffic flow and safety.

The stop sign was installed to address public safety concerns after portions of County 12 were temporarily detoured to allow crews to widen the road and extend culverts. The detour routes direct motorists to the Foley Beach Express and Mifflin Road-Baldwin County 20 to bypass the construction zone. Drivers are urged to follow traffic signs and exercise caution, reducing speeds through both the work zone and detour areas.

Work on the project involves widening the roads, adding right-turn lanes on Alabama 59 North and South, and constructing left and right-turn lanes on Baldwin County 12. Additionally, culvert extensions and signal upgrades are part of the scope.

Construction is expected to continue under typical lane closures, with completion of work at the intersection of Alabama 59 and Baldwin County 12 scheduled for the fall of 2025.
