Teenager bicyclist killed by dump truck in Gulf Shores

The Gulf Shores Police Department has released new details of the fatal accident in Gulf Shores that occurred Wednesday, May 24.

A 13-year-old boy visiting Gulf Shores from Gainestown was riding an electric bike on the sidewalk in the 200 block of Gulf Shores Parkway around 1:10 p.m. when he lost control of the bike and fell into the southbound lane of traffic. A waste container truck that was traveling southbound on Gulf Shores Parkway struck the teen.

A Gulf Shores Beach Rescue lifeguard arrived on the scene almost immediately and attempted to provide aid. The first responders were unable to resuscitate him.

The police department is being assisted in the investigation by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. The investigation is ongoing, and police are asking anyone with information or who witnessed the accident to contact Sgt. Chad Lambert at (251) 968-2431.
