Daphne police have released the name of the victim in Thursday morning’s shooting.
Michael Mallette, a 38-year-old Daphne resident and manager of Taziki’s Mediterranean, was shot around 5:30 a.m.
Daphne Police Chief Brian Gulsby released an update in the investigation just after 3:30 p.m. In it he said:
“Crime Scene Investigators are still at the scene but are expected to be complete shortly. Detectives have collected several items of evidence and are following multiple leads.”
Shortly after 5:30 a.m. Thursday, DPD officers responded to the parking lot area of Taziki’s Mediterranean Café, which is located just across the street from the DPD at 1539 US 98.
Officers found one male victim. EMS arrived shortly after police, and, despite life-saving measures, the victim did not survive. Daphne Police Chief Brian Gulsby confirmed the victim was a manager at Taziki’s.
The suspect is still at large and described as a Black male wearing a dark hoodie. He fled the area on foot. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call (251) 620-0911.
“We don’t believe there is any elevated risk to the public,” Gulsby said. “He likely fled in a vehicle parked or waiting nearby.”
