Rescue crews have still been unable to locate a 14-year-old swimmer who was reported missing in heavy surf on Saturday afternoon, May 21.
The boy was reportedly in the water with his father near the 26000 block of Perdido Beach Boulevard, near Turquoise Place Condos, when he was caught in a rip current. His father was transported to the South Baldwin Regional Medical Center for water inhalation.
The city of Orange Beach reported that South Baldwin Regional Medical Center saw five or six near-drowning victims on Saturday due to the dangerous rip currents.
Single red flags were flown on Sunday due to the rough water. On Monday morning, officials raised a double red flag over the coastline, closing the Gulf waters to the public due to potentially life-threatening rip currents and dangerous surf.
