Through the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, which has awarded more than $86 million since its inception to support safety across the country, Summerdale first responders received a $7,308 grant to ensure they have the necessary equipment to keep both the community and themselves protected.
Firehouse Subs founders created the non-profit Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation in 2005, using the initiative to distribute lifesaving equipment, prevention education, scholarships, continued education and disaster relief for first responders, public safety efforts and additional support for military veterans. In a Friday, June 14, press release, Summerdale stated the grant will be used to acquire a new Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) Kit that aids fire departments in searches for downed or incapacitated firefighters.
"We are grateful to the foundation and our local Firehouse Subs in Foley for awarding us this grant," Summerdale Fire Chief Michael A. Aaron said. "The new RIT Kit will fulfill a critical need within our department and allow our first responders to better help the people of Summerdale during emergency situations."
