High school students looking to broaden their horizons and experience life abroad have the opportunity to spend a summer, semester or even an academic year immersed in new cultures through the ASSE International Student Exchange Program.
ASSE, a non-profit organization, connects students with volunteer host families in Europe, Asia, North and South America, Australia and South Africa. The program, aimed at fostering intercultural understanding, allows students aged 15 to 18 to live and study abroad, creating lasting friendships and valuable global perspectives.
Students qualify based on their academic performance, character references, and a genuine enthusiasm to experience life in a different country. While prior knowledge of the host country's language is not required, participants will gain language skills by living within the community and attending local high school classes. This immersive approach helps students learn the language while embracing the day-to-day culture of their new surroundings.
Scholarships are available to students based on academic achievement, leadership skills and financial need, ensuring that more young people can take part in this enriching experience.
In addition to sending American students abroad, ASSE offers families in the U.S. the chance to host international students from countries like Spain, Italy, Germany, Ukraine, Thailand and Japan. Host families play a key role in creating a welcoming environment for these young people, who attend local American high schools during their stay.
For families or students interested in participating in the ASSE International Student Exchange Program, more information can be found by visiting www.asse.com or contacting ASSE at 1-800-677-2773 or via email at aclements@asse.com.
