SUMMERDALE — Teachers can apply now for Operation Round Up's Star Light Award grants. Applications are available at all Baldwin EMC offices and at www.baldwinemc.com.
Teachers from kindergarten through 12th grade in accredited public and private schools within Baldwin EMC's service area are eligible. Grants provide support to teachers for the purpose of improving learning through innovative and creative classroom projects.
Created in 2011, over 280 Star Light grants have been awarded to local teachers. Funds have allowed students to get up close with insects, improve math skills and learn new instruments, among other things.
The grants are made possible through Baldwin EMC's Operation Round Up program, which collects money for charitable causes by rounding up participating members' power bills. The nine members of the Baldwin County Electric Membership Charitable Foundation administer grant funds.
Deadline for Star Light applications is close of business on Sept. 23.
