St. Michael Catholic High School earns Gold distinction on 2024 AP School Honor Roll

St. Michael Catholic High School has earned a prestigious spot on the College Board's 2024 Advanced Placement (AP) Program School Honor Roll, achieving the Gold distinction for its success in delivering advanced learning opportunities to its students.

The College Board's AP Program allows high school students to take college-level courses in 38 subjects, giving them the chance to earn college credit or advanced placement before stepping foot on a college campus. With challenging exams at the conclusion of each course, students develop critical thinking skills, build strong arguments and gain broader perspectives — tools that prepare them for higher education and beyond.

Schools earning the AP School Honor Roll recognition must meet specific criteria that highlight both achievement and access. The program honors schools that demonstrate a commitment to expanding college-readiness by offering students opportunities to earn college credit and ensuring a strong culture that encourages higher education.

According to a news release, 51.76% of the Class of 2024 at St. Michael took at least one AP exam during their high school career, with 36.47% of those seniors taking five or more AP courses. Furthermore, 66% of these students earned a score of 3 or higher on at least one AP exam, making them eligible for college credit at many universities.

"AP gives students an opportunity to engage with college-level work, to earn college credit and placement and to potentially boost their grade point averages," Dean of Academics Lisa East said in the release.

St. Michael Catholic High School offers 12 AP courses taught by 10 faculty members, who lead 19 sections of these challenging subjects. These efforts contribute to a college-focused environment that supports students in pushing their academic limits.
