June 23, Foley High School announced the hiring of Spencer Royer as Head Swim Coach for the Lions.

The announcement post said Royer brings 25 years of swimming experience, both in the pool as a swimmer and out of the pool as a coach, and will teach English at the high school.

“I am excited about the opportunity to lead the Foley teams and help to build a tradition that we can all be proud of,” Royer said in a statement on the Foley Swim website. “As with any new endeavor, it will take time and collective effort. However, I am confident that together, we will achieve amazing things.”

Most recently, Royer served six years as Head Coach for Tennessee’s Sevier County High School as well as the Sevier Aquatic Club as part of USA Swimming.

As a swimmer, Royer earned all-state honors at Lafayette High School in Missouri and went on to achieve collegiate All-American status twice at Drury University.

Foley High School was set to host a meet-and-greet event Wednesday, June 29, in the main lobby at 5 p.m.
