Spanish Fort’s Threat invited to XFL draft

Former Auburn, Jacksonville State linebacker getting ready for another spring league

Posted

Tre Threat, a member of Spanish Fort High School’s Class of 2016 and former linebacker for the Auburn Tigers and Jacksonville State Gamecocks, announced earlier this month that he was included in the player draft pool for the XFL’s revival set to kick off February 2023.

It could be the third spring football league he’s part of within a year. He was drafted to the Michigan Panthers in the USFL earlier this year and was recently with his hometown Alabama Airborne in a startup league, Major League Football, which was supposed to kick off in August but was shut down due to a lack of funding.

“Not many people can say they’ve been picked up and drafted by three different leagues,” Threat said in his announcement interview on the Shady Sports Network’s YouTube channel.

The XFL is attempting its second revival after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic derailed the 2020 rebirth of the 2001 experiment led by the World Wrestling Federation.

With the season set to start in February, Threat is planning to attend the final prospect camp in San Diego in October as a final preparation ahead of the draft.

Threat was part of the 15-0, state champion Toro squad from 2015 where he finished his high school career as a two-time all-county and second-team all-state selection before he played in the Under Armour All-American Game.

Threat played two years for the Auburn Tigers, mainly as a special teams ace, before transferring to Jacksonville State where he collected 43 total tackles and seven sacks over 23 games.
