A former Spanish Fort Toro has joined the Green Bay Packers for preseason training camp as wide receiver Jalen Wayne signed a one-year deal with the NFC North team.
Representing the South Alabama Jaguars, Wayne led the American Team with 50 receiving yards on 8 catches at the 2023 Senior Bowl in his home stadium of Hancock Whitney Stadium in Mobile.
Wayne went on to sign with the Buffalo Bills as an undrafted free agent and also spent time with the Cleveland Browns during the 2023 preseason. He competed earlier this year with the Montreal Alouettes in the Canadian Football League and has now returned to the states.
The Packers’ receivers room includes names the likes of Christian Watson from North Dakota State and Romeo Doubs from Nevada. Also signed at the same time as Wayne was rookie free agent Rory Starkey who played his final collegiate season for Samford after four at Penn.
Green Bay has preseason games scheduled for Aug. 10 (Browns), Aug. 18 (Denver Broncos) and Aug. 24 (Baltimore Ravens) before a roster cutdown date is set for Aug. 27. The Packers’ regular-season schedule opens with the Philadelphia Eagles on Sept. 6.
