A new Cajun-style cuisine has arrived to Fairhope with Southern Bayou Grill.
The establishment is opening at 11950 County Road 32 at the former site of Grill 32. Chef Perry Boyd, who has over 25 years of culinary experience, is the brains behind the menu. Having lived in Mississippi and with family from Louisiana, he grew up with owner Barbara Edwards, and the two decided to join forces to open a restaurant.
The menu includes classic Cajun dishes such as homemade gumbo, po'boys, red beans and rice and a variety of seafood. One of their dishes includes West Bank Catfish, which is fried or grilled catfish topped with crawfish etouffee over rice and a side of choice. They also serve traditional American food such as burgers along with Boyd's award-winning white chocolate bread pudding, a dessert crafted from his own creation.
Their plan is to gradually introduce more food to the menu, with Boyd saying he plans to introduce some kind of new Cajun dish every week. They also plan sell crawfish, dead or alive, during season, along with several types of sauces created by Boyd.
Wanting to ease their way into the establishment as they open, Boyd said he wants to become a staple for the community and that they are looking forward to serving their food. Edwards said they are looking forward to growing, already throwing around ideas for what they want to do next.
Southern Bayou Grill opened June 27. They are open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and are closed Sunday and Monday.
