Sojourn Counseling is making it easier for Alabama drivers to show their support for individuals affected by Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder by covering the $50 pre-commitment fee for the PTSD Awareness Distinctive License Plate.
Per a news release, the initiative, which is available to the first 1,000 participants who sign up by May 15, aims to raise awareness and support for those living with PTSD.
PTSD affects millions worldwide, often stemming from traumatic experiences such as combat, accidents or abuse. Despite its prevalence, stigma and barriers to mental health care remain significant challenges. The distinctive license plate serves as a visible symbol of solidarity and understanding, helping to foster conversations about PTSD and encourage those affected to seek help.
"By covering the pre-commitment fee, we want to eliminate any barriers that might prevent people from joining this movement," said Director of Sojourn Counseling Beau Armistead in a news release. "This license plate is more than just a way to raise vital funds for our counseling services; it’s a message of hope and healing that will be seen on roads across Alabama. Together, we can create a more compassionate and supportive community for individuals affected by PTSD."
If 1,000 pre-commitments are reached, proceeds from the ongoing sale of the PTSD Awareness Distinctive License Plate will support Sojourn Counseling’s mission to provide accessible mental health services. Over five years, the initiative has the potential to generate more than $200,000 for counseling programs, helping to bridge gaps in mental health care for those in need.
Each plate will carry an empowering message: "There is hope for healing from PTSD." The design also includes a reference to AtEase.org, where individuals can find resources and support for their recovery journey.
The PTSD Awareness Distinctive License Plate is available for pre-commitment online. Sojourn Counseling encourages residents to take advantage of this opportunity to raise awareness and make a lasting impact.
