Silverhill Elementary School prepares for major move, new campus to open in 2025

Silverhill Elementary School is preparing for a transformative move to its new campus on County Road 55 slated to open in early 2025.

The facility, costing over $30 million, is designed to meet the demands of the area's rapid growth. The school will sit on a 75-acre property purchased in July 2021. Construction began in April 2023, and the campus will provide much-needed space and amenities for students and staff.

Once complete, the new school will accommodate up to 1,400 students with a cafeteria capable of seating about 500 at a time. The upgrade is a stark contrast to the current campus, built in the 1950s on a 7-acre lot in town. The existing school already serves more than 400 students, a number straining its capacity.

According to reports, there are numerous subdivisions under development in the area, adding upwards of 200-400 lots.

Following the transition, the current school on Fourth Avenue will be demolished, with the exception of the gymnasium according to reports. Preliminary plans suggest the site could house a new preschool, though details remain unconfirmed.

To honor the history of the current Silverhill Elementary, the community is invited to a "Walk to Remember" on Dec. 5 from 5 to 7 p.m. This event will allow former and current students, teachers and community members to reflect and bid farewell to the cherished campus. The event will take place at the school's current location, 15800 Fourth Ave.
