Robertsdale’s Williams, Tims to remain teammates with Birmingham Prep Cardinals

After the initial wave of college football signees put pen to paper last Wednesday, Feb. 1, a few more local athletes announced their commitments the following day.

From Spanish Fort, Josiah Hixon committed to the University of North Alabama and from Robertsdale, both Konner Tims and Glen Williams chose to take their talents to Birmingham Prep.

Also amongst the Feb. 1 signees included Peyton Nero, a Fairhope High grad that played the 2022 season with the East Coast Prep Firebirds in Massachusetts where he earned his offer to join the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats.

Those athletes bring Baldwin County’s total college football signees to 39 since the period opened this month. Fairhope’s Caden Creel (Jacksonville State) and Orange Beach’s Chris Pearson (Houston) signed in the early period, Dec. 21, 2022.

Fairhope Pirates (via East Coast Prep Firebirds): Peyton Nero – Bethune-Cookman Wildcats

After he was an all-state honorable mention defensive back as a senior, Nero went out to Great Barrington, Massachusetts for a postgraduate season. He chose Bethune-Cookman over other offers from Allen University, Saint Anselm, Cicso College and Franklin Pierce.

Robertsdale Golden Bears: Glen Williams – Birmingham Prep Cardinals; Konner Tims – Birmingham Prep Cardinals

The pair of Golden Bears will remain teammates in their postgraduate season and will join forces with a pair of Foley Lions doing the same in Isaac Gamez and Tyler Hamby.

Williams was a first-team all-county athlete and Tims led the defense with 52 tackles, 9 tackles for a loss, 3.5 sacks, 4 pass breakups and 3 fumble recoveries. Tims also fielded offers from Jefferson Post-Grad, Daytona Academy, Siskiyous, Georgia Knights Prep and Faulkner. Williams was also offered by Jefferson Post-Grad and also received a basketball offer to Goode Elite Prep.

Spanish Fort Toros: Josiah Hixon – North Alabama Lions

The newest North Alabama Lion was a leader for the Spanish Fort defense and was a second-team all-county selection. Hixon marks another from his family, as well as another Toro to join the Division I ranks after his brother Jeremiah transferred from Alabama State to New Mexico where Josiah’s classmate Jacob Godfrey signed with Wednesday.

Josiah also earned offers from Long Island, Ottawa and Graceland and also took visits to Grambling State and New Mexico in addition to North Alabama. He joins the Lions’ recruiting class which is the first for new head coach Brent Dearmon in Florence.
