ROBERTSDALE, Alabama -- The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Department’s School Resource and Community Relations Division wrapped up its 11th annual Shining Star camps July 24-26 at Central Baldwin Middle School in Robertsdale.

Camp activities included visits from MedStar Air One helicopter, Robertsdale Fire Department, Medstar ambulance, BCSO chaplains, Baldwin County Department of Corrections (taser demonstration), the Sheriff’s Department bomb squad unit, FBI Evidence Response Team, Klass Kids Search and Rescue, along with programs about Internet safety and cyberbullying, gun safety and alcohol awareness.

The camp also included outings to the Hot Wheels Skating Rink in Daphne, Alligator Alley and Baldwin EMC (Livewire on Wheels Safety Presentation) in Summerdale.

The camp includes volunteers from the BCSO, local law enforcement and first responders and is coordinated by Cpl. Jeff Spaller and Sgt. Jacob Hill.

“We just want to thank Mr. (School Superintendent Eddie) Tyler and the Baldwin County Board of Education for allowing us to use their facilities to perpetuate a positive relationship between the Sheriff’s Department and the public,” Spaller said.

Attendance for this year’s camps, including Magnolia School, Rockwell Elementary, Fairhope Intermediate and CBMS, was up this year, Spaller said, with a total of 450 campers attending the four camps. More than 2,500 campers in total have attended the camps throughout its 11-year history.

A Family Fun Day, which was open to parents and campers from all four camps and the general public, was held Saturday at Central Baldwin Middle.

The day included several static displays and demonstrations, along with free lunch of hamburgers, hotdogs, drinks and sides.
