The volleyball postseason has reached the Super Regional round and seven teams from Baldwin County will compete in the playoffs starting today in Montgomery.

Area 1 runner-up Elberta (against Montgomery Academy) and champion Gulf Shores (against Jemison-Charles Henderson) got things going at 9 a.m. and 10:15 a.m., respectively, on the Class 5A stage.

The 4A Area 1 champion Orange Beach Makos were next on the docket with an 11:30 a.m. match against Bibb County.

Class 6A’s Spanish Fort and Bayside Academy both have 2 p.m. matches scheduled against Calera and Spanish Fort, respectively.

Thursday’s schedule includes Class 2A Bayshore Christian (Area 1 champion) at 12:45 p.m. and Class 7A Fairhope (Area 2 runner-up) at 2 p.m.

Stay tuned for live updates throughout the first rounds of the South Super Regional on social media at @GCMSportsAL. Until then, here are some more details on the opening-round matchups for Baldwin County’s representatives.

Class 5A

Elberta Warriors (Area 1 runners-up) at Montgomery Academy Eagles (Area 6 champion), Oct. 19, 9 a.m.

Winner faces the victor of the Brewbaker Tech-Sylacauga matchup in the second round scheduled to play at 3:30 p.m. today. Montgomery Academy beat Gulf Shores but fell to Orange Beach during regular-season tournament play.

Demopolis Tigers (Area 6 runners-up) at Gulf Shores Dolphins (Area 1 champion), Oct. 19, 10:15 a.m.

Winner faces the victor of the Jemison-Charles Henderson match in the second round which is also scheduled to be played at 3:30 p.m.

Gulf Shores won its area tournament as the first-place finisher after the regular season then took down Elberta, who beat B.C. Rain, in the finals.

Class 4A

Bibb County Choctaws (Area 5 runners-up) at Orange Beach Makos (Area 2 champion), Oct. 19, 11:30 a.m.

Winner faces the victor of the Munford-Dallas County match in the second round set to play at 5 p.m. tonight.

Orange Beach claimed the area tournament with sweeps over St. Michael Catholic and Satsuma for its fourth and second wins over those foes this season, respectively.

Class 6A

Calera Eagles (Area 5 runners-up) at Spanish Fort Toros (Area 2 champion), Oct. 19, 2 p.m.

Winner faces the victor of the McAdory-Stanhope Elmore matchup scheduled for 6:30 p.m. tonight.

Spanish Fort won its area tournament with a four-set victory over Bayside Academy in the finals for its second win over the 20-time defending state champion Admirals this season. The Toros beat Robertsdale in the semifinal.

Bayside Academy Admirals (Area 2 runners-up) at Benjamin Russell Wildcats (Area 5 champion), Oct. 19, 2 p.m.

Winner faces the victor of the Wetumpka-Hueytown match set to also play at 6:30 p.m.

Bayside Academy puts its 20 straight state titles on the line in a new classification after the Admirals were moved up to Class 6A due to the competitive balance factor following state championships all of the years they played in Class 3A (10), Class 4A (2) and Class 5A (2).

Bayside Academy is the only school in the Alabama High School Athletic Association to win Blue Map trophies in every classification from 1A to 5A and the 20-championship streak is a national record.

Class 2A

Lanett Panthers (Area 5 runners-up) at Bayshore Christian Eagles (Area 1 champion), Oct. 20 at 12:45 p.m.

The winner of this match would face victor of the Isabella-Ariton match later Thursday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.

Bayshore Christian claimed another area title with a sweep over Chickasaw in the finals to earn a No. 1 seed in the regional round. In their last two years competing in Class 1A, the Eagles went to two straight state finals, won the 2020 championship and finished as runners-up in the 2021 state tournament.

Class 7A

Fairhope Pirates (Area 2 runners-up) at Enterprise Wildcats (Area 3 champion), Oct. 20, 2 p.m.

Winner faces the victor of the St. Paul’s-Central Phenix City matchup in the semifinals set for Friday at 10 a.m.

Fairhope took down Daphne in the area tournament to earn a spot in the final against top-ranked McGill-Toolen. Although the Pirates were swept in the area final, they moved onto the super regional bracket three wins away from a title.
